Raised in the Virgin Islands, Dave has always been one with nature. Growing up he made a living on fishing boats with the natives. During these years, he spent his free time socializing with the natives and learning their cultural secrets.  One of these secrets was their amazing ability to weave incredible baskets, hats, and animals from a single palm frond.  
Dave was the original coconut hat weaver in Mallory Square, Key West starting in the '50s.  Jimmy Buffett even used one of Dave's hats to collect money when he was a street performer.  Also, Dave was even featured in a Miller Draft commercial in the '80s for his palm tree climbing abilities.
Today, Coconut Dave resides in Southwest Florida and can be seen climbing 80 foot palm trees searching for the perfect frond for weaving.
